McDuffie DNA Surname Project posts its first results!

100% match scored between participants from Prince Edward Island Canada and Australia. The first report is out from the McDuffie DNA Surname Project. Full results can be seen at mcduffiedna.com.

So far, six people from the McDuffie name group have been tested. Their ancestors were two McPhees, a McFee, two McAfees, and a McDuff(ie?). Their ancestors came from Mull, South Carolina, Argyll and Ulster. Those being tested were from all around the globe.

There are five distinct bloodlines here, however all are clearly of “Celtic” origin and not “Viking.” Straight away, we can say that our ancestors came from Ireland between 1500 and 1000 years ago in the days of Dalriada. Former esteemed McPhee historian and Clan Commander the late Earle Douglas MacPhee in his well-known and comprehensive "red book" on McPhee family history, had said that our clan was of Celtic origin, and not Viking. He has been proved absolutely correct. We may yet, through this project, be able to answer some of the other puzzles from down the centuries.

Now that there are 5 bloodlines defined, it is much more likely that new project members will match to an existing line. There is much more to be learned through testing of other branches. If you are a [male] McDuffie, McPhee, MacFie, McAfee, McDuff, Cathey, Coffee, or any of that ilk, please take a look at the website and consider joining the project. The newly-established distant cousins have determined that they share a great, great, great, grandfather, John McPhee who was born in Mull around 1750. It is the cause of much excitement.

You will find most questions about the project answered in the FAQ section of the website. Should you have any unanswered, you can contact McDuffie DNA Surname Project Coordinator [Rod]:
