Reiki for health care professionals

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, calming form of healing touch that facilitates balance of mind/body/spirit, and promotes inner peace. Reiki not only supports those who are living, but those who are dying, as well. With Reiki training, we are taught ways to therapeutically place hands on or near the body to promote needed rest and healing. Reiki helps with:

  • Deep relaxation & rejuvenation

  • Restoration of body’s energy, or chi

  • Harmony of mind, body, spirit

  • Expansion of awareness levels

  • Support for those experiencing illness, disease, transition, trauma, grief, and substance abuse recovery.

This powerful yet subtle energy-body work always works for our highest good. Once attuned to Reiki, it naturally flows through the use of our intention.

Reiki complements traditional medicine. It can be used on oneself to promote wellness, as well as with patients, friends and family.

Reiki for health care & hospice professionals

Prevention Magazine (October 2004) reports that “About 60% of the hospitals included in the U.S. News & World Report, America’s Best Hospitals list, offer some kind of Reiki program, if only informally,” according to the International Association of Reiki Professionals.

“Some studies have shown Reiki to effectively reduce anxiety and blood pressure in otherwise healthy people, and government-sponsored trials are under way to gauge its impact on prostate cancer, fibromyalgia, diabetic neuropathy, and AIDS.”

Several well-known books on the topic of Reiki have been written by registered nurses and medical social workers. Highly recommended is Reiki Energy Medicine: Bringing Healing Touch into Home, Hospital & Hospice by Libby Barnett & Maggie Chambers.

Reiki is becoming a mainstream therapy at hospitals, healing clinics, hospices and spas, such as O’Connor Hospital in San Jose, the Integrative & Wellness Medical Center of Silicon Valley in Los Gatos, and the Post Ranch Inn, Big Sur.
