Mary Saint-Marie “Sheoekah”
xxMary Saint-Marie has eyes the color of blue-ice; stunningly luminous orbs in a radiant face, framed by dark hair. The was the first thing I noticed about her upon our meeting in Monterey in 1998. Without yet knowing anything about her, I was moved to tell her about the anthology I was compiling. And without knowing anything about me, she agreed to participate. A recognition and resonance passed between us as if we had been waiting for an actual moment of contact. xxAt that time, Mary was residing in Sedona, a place where I spent many magical, mystical moments during my growing years. I have since come to realize that Mary and I have a deep love and reverence for nature and the many forms she takes to reveal herself to those who truly wish to see. xxMary is an artist in every sense of the word. As a creator and teacher, she has an ability to translate the indefinable in some palpable way; her visionary art captures the indescribable essence of Spirit. After I read her submission for this book, I realized that the centeredness and wholeness she conveys is the tangible outgrowth of her dedication to the regular practice of meditation. Mary radiates balance, wisdom and calm awareness. xxI asked her about the name SHEOEKAH that I had seen gracing her works. She explained that the the mid-80s she received “I am SHEOEKAH” during meditation, which she understood to be her spirit name. Mary says it keeps her knowing that she is not the one doing the work. The name translates as “She of the heart.” Susan Averett Lee
